News websites and channels are filled with articles about the health, water, and education sectors among other familiar sectors known to most people due to their benefits and issues in general. The land sector is one of the vital and significant sectors of our lives, which does not get sufficient recognition.
The world faces challenges of climate change, rapid urbanization, increased demand on natural resources, in addition to food problems and insecure tenure rights, all of which are related to the land sector. This is just a small part of the obstacles that led to creating new effective mechanisms for monitoring land governance and tenure security.
As a response for emerging needs, such tools and initiatives aim to address and overcome the issues related to lack of quality data and information, undue survey and documentation processes, complexity and ambiguity of the legal frameworks regulating ownership of land as well as weak women`s access to land.
To contribute to resolving the existing challenges within this important sector, Rasheed for Integrity and Transparency (Transparency International – Jordan) held last December a three-day training session on monitoring land governance and tenure security in the Middle-East sub region. The aim of the training was to support local stakeholders in boosting their capacities in collecting and analyzing land-related data and SDG reporting on indicators 1.4.2, 5.a.1 and 5.a.2, in addition to improving overall understanding of the land governance sector.
Currently Rasheed (Transparency International – Jordan) in coordination with the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN)/UN-Habitat are preparing for the second training covering the Arab states within North Africa sub-region, that will be held in early March, 2021.
